I am about to make the best excuse in the world why I have not updated the site everyday while we were on our trip in Chamonix. My dog ate it!!!!
Only joking, you would not believe what happened, when we got to our caravan site, the owner, who was a very short tempered French lady seemed to think that our Motorhome would run on only 3 amps of electricity, when it actually need between 10 and 20 amps, After a day of arguing and her blaming it on our Motorhome we called a truce, I went to speak to her and explained that our vehicle was brand new and had been plugged in to power for 3 weeks back home so I didn't see the problem, she replied " My washing machine worked yesterday and now it does not, that is just the way it goes." Anyway we sorted it out and went into her restaurant for a lovely dinner and a few glasses of wine, and just chilled out. The next morning I went to go and have a shower in the shower bloke, which was under the reception and the restaurant and found there was a problem. I went back to the Motorhome and the said to Leon and the guys "no showers today guys, the building has burnt down, I think it was the washing machine started it. " Of course no-one believed me to start but when they went outside to see you could see a very charred building and the shell of a washing machine outside. The funny thing was we were parked nearest to the building and we were the only people on the whole camp site that slept through the whole thing, fire engines the lot. Well we did have a long drive down.
The rest of the days were spent skiing and snowboarding, oh and a little but of sledging. Near where we were staying there was a full on ski jump, the landing of the jump was so perfect for sledging , it was steep, long, flat and really smooth, and we flew down, it was amazing.
The two slopes we went to were Les Flegiers and Les Tours both were so awesome. Debs and I took it steady and just did some Green and Blue runs, I fell over a fair bit but got loads more confident. Our sides were hurting so much from laughing.
Leon and James were a lot more adventurous; they took the lift up to the top of the mountain and snowboarded to the bottom mostly off piste doing loads of jumps on the way down. One time they said to debs and I to come to the top and film them, they said there was a blue run back down and it was pretty flat so we would be ok. We agreed and went to the top and it was breathtaking. I've never seen a view like it, it was so cold though -13 degrees. We filmed them both doing to jumps and to give them credit they were both really good, then they went off and left us to get down, the thing was we missed the marker for the blue run and ended going down a black run. Mostly on our bums, Black runs are the steepest and iciest and most difficult of the slopes, and bear in mind this was only my 2nd day of skiing ever so I didn't feel ready for something so demanding, but we did it and I'm proud of that, we also made the lads feel very guilty for it after.
The week just got better and better, and we all had the best time. The best thing for me was the Vin Chaud which is basically mulled wine, but even better. For Leon it was the fact that this was the first time he'd ever been snowboarding and he was going down the mountain flat out and doing some really good jumps.
New years eve we went out for a pizza and then went to an American club in Chamonix centre and just danced all night, but as soon as New Years came we headed back to our motorhome, we were all so knackered from skiing and snowboarding , the next day we had to get up early to avoid all the queues.
I have put all the pictures on the gallery and there are some funny ones. We are in the process of updating the site so we can upload videos so as soon as that happens I will put on the footage of the jumps and our New Years antics.
Thanks to Debs and James, we had the best time and to all that helped with our trip, especially Ade and Lester from TLC Motorhomes. Its in one piece I promise.
Happy new year to everyone and good luck for 08. This is Leons year.
