HASLAM HAPPY WITH OPENING DAY AT VALENCIA

09 December 2009

LEON HASLAM continued to make progress with his new Alstare Suzuki Team during the opening day of a two-day test at the Valencia circuit in Spain on Wednesday.

Haslam, who previously tested the GSX-R1000 machine at Portimao in Portugal at the end of October and at Phillip Island, Australia a month ago, believes the new partnership of himself and the Suzuki has plenty of potential.

"Today went well," said Haslam. "I reckon I did about 75 laps and we constantly improved the machine so it was a reasonably smooth day. Like everybody, we're targeting a set-up for the machine that suits the Pirelli race tyres.

"We also needed to confirm everything that we learnt in Portugal and Australia and that was achieved. Overall, the team is working really well and I think there's a lot more to come from the machine before we get to the opening round in Australia next February."

Haslam recorded the fastest time of the opening day of the test with a lap of 1m 34.5s, 0.1s inside the existing lap record for the 2.951-mile circuit on the outskirts of Valencia city.
