Track Info:
Silverstone will always hold a place in the heart and history of British Motorsport. It hosted the very first round of the official World Championship, in May 1950. Won by Giuseppe Farina in an Alfa Romeo 158, it was one of three wins that year that saw the Italian crowned as the first-ever World Champion of the modern era.
This Northamptonshire venue was developed on the site of a wartime airfield, and actually held non-championship Grand Prix in 1948 and 1949, when Luigi Villoresi and Emmanuel de Graffenried gave Maserati two victories in succession.
A list of Silverstone's Grand Prix winners down the years is a roll-call of the motor racing hall of fame - Ascari and Gonzalez, Fangio and Brabham, Clark and Stewart, Hunt and Watson, Prost and Senna, Mansell and Villeneuve, Schumacher and Coulthard are just some of the names - but there are notable exceptions. Graham Hill, twice World Champion, never won a British Grand Prix, and Stirling Moss, so successful in other races at Silverstone, never won his home Grand Prix here.
Operated today by Silverstone Circuits Limited, the Silverstone name is synonymous with the very best in competitive racing. The British Grand Prix, World Superbike, British Touring Cars, British Superbike, British F3 & GTs all grace this historic venue.
